Art from the heart
Art ‘straight from the heart’.
Born with a pencil in my hand, to the moment I plonked my first dab of colour on paper in kindergarten, it was inevitable. I excelled in art throughout my school years, earning a distinction a year ahead of my peers. But due to circumstances, I was unable to follow the dream of being a full-time artist; instead, I studied Graphic Design, which became my eventual career path.
All the while, my love of fine art and painting had never drifted far from my heart. So after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2011, I decided to concentrate more fully on my first love.
My first works were mostly influenced by early memories of my natural surroundings in the African bush, later developing into creating paintings and drawings of wildlife, landscapes and still life themes. After some success and with encouragement from family and friends, I signed up for a study course in abstract and contemporary art at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design Auckland. This definitely helped me to loosen up my style and application of my work.
My passion now focuses on exploring colour and a range of mix media on canvas – realistic or abstract.
This is my happy place – turning canvases into “art from the heart”
